Survey for Max Phelp's Work

  1. 1. When was your water garden installed?  Was it your first water garden?

My water garden was installed around the first week or so in May, and it was my first water garden.

          2. On a scale of 1 to 10, ten being the best, how would you rate the contractor's customer service?
Before and after the pond was built.

I would give Max a 10.  He and I had talked last year about the possibility of doing a water garden.
I decided to wait, because I already had one outdoor project going.  He really worked with me and
was extremely creative.  I practically live in my yard, and I wanted to ensure that the water feature
suited the rest of my landscaping.  ‘

He  has been in touch with me on several occasions since the installation of the pond to make sure that
everything is going smoothly with it, and to make sure I'm happy and don't have any problems with it.
Just as he said, the water garden is not a lot of maintenance, and I enjoy it every day.

         3. How quickly do they respond to you?  Is the contractor accessible when you need to get in
         touch with them?

Max is easily accessible.  We e-mail each other quite a bit, and I know I can always pick up the phone
and call him.  He's very prompt in returning messages.

         4. How informative was the contractor before they installed your pond?  How clearly did they
describe the process they would be going through to build your pond and what type of
         maintenance you would perform?

He went over this information very thoroughly, because he knew I had initial concerns about the maintenance
required for the pond.  However, as I stated earlier, the pond is extremely low maintenance.  I check the
skimmer often, but I don't have to empty it very much.

He also explained in detail the steps he would go through to actually construct my pond.

When we initially talked about the design of the pond, I wanted it to be a certain size, but I also had to keep
everything within a budget.  I have two other projects going on in my yard this summer that are quite
expensive.  He helped me come up with a design and size that were very pleasing, but did not break my
         budget!

         5. Are you happy with the size of the water garden that you had installed?  Did the landscaper
suggest a bigger or smaller size than what you had originally envisioned?

Max and I worked closely with this, because I wanted the pond in a certain location, and I knew the size I
wanted it to be.  He was very adaptable, and once we started the construction of the pond, he was able to
incorporate some features that I already have in my yard (use of limestone rocks stacked), so it would all
blend in together and compliment the rest of my landscaping.  He took great pains with this, and it looks as
though the water garden has always been there!

         6. Are you happy with the end product?  Was it what you expected?

I'm extremely happy with the end product, and it was exactly as I expected.  We worked closely on the
design, and I sit by the water garden every afternoon when I get home.  My water garden is near my patio,
so it's extremely soothing after a long day.

         7. Would you recommend this contractor to other people?

I most certainly would!  I'm trying to get my mom and dad to have a water garden installed!

          8. Overall comments….

Max is a professional, and he takes great pride in his work.  However, he does not want to force his services
on someone who is not really interest in having a water garden.

He is extremely creative, and very adaptable with plans.  I just think it's very important that home owners
work closely with their contractors to ensure they have conveyed their ideas about what they want, because
building this water garden was hard work!

Since I watched his progress every day, we were able to talk about how the pond was shaping up, and we
were able to make certain changes if I wanted them.  A water garden is really a work of art, and sometimes
it's hard to explain what you want until you see it start to take shape.

He took such care, even with the placement of the rocks in the waterfall, to ensure that I got the sound that I
         wanted.
